Daiwa's Millionaire was Japan's answer to the Ambassadeur: a round, star-drag baitcaster with a level wind and centrifugal brake, sold in the same sizes and for the same fishing.
A Millionaire that backlashes or casts short usually needs its centrifugal brakes checked and its bearings cleaned and oiled.

About 55 Millionaires are listed across the family (3R, 3RM, 4HM, 5H, 5HS, V and the original 5000), most at $30–60 delivered, and none are flagged for parts. Free shipping is common, so compare delivered totals. The original 5000-series is scarce; the one captured here asks about $161 delivered, while a boxed 5HS at $176 is asking a premium loose 5HS reels don't support. Most listings only say "works" at best, so check that both brake blocks snap back. For fishing, take the red 3R the seller says works at $35; for a shelf piece, the green Millionaire V.

About $27 delivered ($18.95 plus $8.16) on Buy It Now from a 100% seller, the lowest total on a complete Millionaire and below the $30–60 band. The seller says this red 3R works great but looks rough, so treat it as a fishing reel, not a shelf piece, and ask whether both brake blocks snap back.
Vintage Daiwa Millionaire 3R Works Great Looks Rough
A 5H high-speed with two ball bearings for $31.49 with free shipping, Buy It Now, at the bottom of the typical band from a 99.9% seller. The title doesn't say tested, so ask the seller to confirm it retrieves and casts smoothly before you buy.
DAIWA Millionaire Model 5H Hi Speed Baitcaster Fishing Reel 2 Ball Bearings
A red 3R the seller says works, $35 delivered with free shipping and Best Offer open, from a 99.9% seller. The 3R is the plain-vanilla Millionaire with no high-speed gearing, which makes it forgiving for learning to thumb a round baitcaster. Expect to add fresh oil.
Vintage Daiwa Millionaire 3R Fishing Reel Baitcasting Japan Red Works
The only fully serviced Millionaire in this snapshot, a 4HM high-speed at $69.95 with free shipping. That's a little above the typical band, but you skip the clean, re-grease and brake-spring check that every unserviced reel here needs.
Vintage Daiwa Millionaire 4HM Hi-Speed Baitcast Reel Japan Fully Serviced
A 1970s original-production Millionaire V in deep green for $39.99 with free shipping, priced like an everyday 3R. The green V is a less common color than the red reels in this snapshot, which makes it the sensible collectible here instead of the $161 original 5000.

See all current listings on eBay ⟶Daiwa's Millionaire was Japan's answer to the Ambassadeur: a round, star-drag baitcaster with a level wind and centrifugal brake, sold in the same sizes and for the same fishing. Collector histories date the first Millionaires to 1975, with the 5H, 5B, 6H and 6B, followed by the bushing-equipped 3H in 1976, and the family grew to include high-speed versions such as the 5HS, the V and the Millionaire II 5000M.
This entry covers that vintage Millionaire family as a whole; we could not confirm a Millionaire sold specifically as a 5000A, so identify the exact version from the side plate. Our latest snapshot found about 55 Millionaires listed, most at $30 to $60 delivered, and only two of the scarcer 5000-series reels, both from sellers in Japan at $145 to $160 delivered.
For most buyers a red 3R or 3RM or a blue 4H gives the same Ambassadeur-style experience for about half the price of a Swedish Abu. Check the model marking carefully, because the family has many similar-looking versions.
