The Wondereel was a Shakespeare level-wind casting reel line from Kalamazoo, Michigan, sold mainly as the 1920, the Light 1921 and the nickel-silver De Luxe 1922.
An old Wondereel that turns stiffly or won't spin usually needs a clean and fresh oil rather than parts.
Price range is INFERRED from completed eBay listings; verify against current sold comps before bidding.
About 30 Wondereel level-wind baitcasters are listed, none for parts, mostly the No. 1920 and the Light No. 1921, at $20–40 delivered (spin and surf reels sharing the name are excluded). The stamped model letters, such as FK, GE and HB, date each reel. Boxes and the nickel-silver 1922 De Luxe are what lift prices, but this market rarely supports more than $75: a dated 1946 boxed 1921 asks $73, and a boxed Light 1921 at $96 is overpriced. A tested, boxed 1920 at $52 is the safe buy if you don't want a cleaning project. Fishers should take the $23 Model GE; collectors, the $37 De Luxe.

A No. 1920 Model GE at $22.79 delivered with Best Offer from a 100% seller: the lowest total on a complete Wondereel here, near the bottom of the $20–40 band. The title has no condition claim, so ask whether the level wind tracks evenly and the spool spins without side-to-side wobble.
Shakespeare Wondereel No 1920 Model GE Bait Casting Reel
The nickel-silver 1922 De Luxe at $37.29 delivered with Best Offer from a 99.9% seller, inside the $20–40 band. It's about $15 more than the cheapest plain reel for the dressier version, though nothing says tested, so ask whether the level wind tracks evenly.
VTG Shakespeare 1922 Wondereel Deluxe Nickel Silver Model HB Fishing Reel
A No. 1920 Model FK described as pristine by a 100% seller, at $41.94 delivered, just over the band. The $11.95 shipping is heavy, so offer around $35 delivered. A clean, simple Wondereel is an easy first vintage level-wind; confirm that pristine includes a smooth retrieve, not just looks.
Shakespeare 1920 Wondereel Model FK In Pristine Condition!!!
Tested and tagged by a seller who documents each reel, and it comes with box and papers, so you know how it runs before buying. $51.95 delivered is about $12 over the band, a fair price for a boxed reel that's ready to fish rather than a cleaning project.

Boxed Light 1921 at $95.69, more than the boxed and dated 1946 1921 listed here; the box alone doesn't justify it.

See all current listings on eBay ⟶The Wondereel was a Shakespeare level-wind casting reel line from Kalamazoo, Michigan, sold mainly as the 1920, the Light 1921 and the nickel-silver De Luxe 1922. As with the President, the four-digit number is a model number, not a year.
Shakespeare's stamped two-letter codes date the start of each production run, and codes seen on Wondereels, such as HB, GE, GA and FK, put them from the late 1930s into the 1950s. Shakespeare later reused the Wondereel name on spinning, underspin and surf reels, so filter those out when you search.
Our latest snapshot found about 30 level-wind Wondereels, mostly the 1920 and Light 1921, at $20 to $40 delivered. The De Luxe nickel-silver reels and boxed reels with papers are the ones worth a premium.
These are simple, sturdy reels and easy to clean up. The catalogue files it under the 1940s, the closest decade it lists.
